Care and Climate
Yarn Care
When you get your yummy yarn home, you will find how to care for your yarn on the yarn band.
The symbols will tell you what to and not to do with your yarn.
I use the internationally recognise care symbols.
Although Superwash is suitable for popping in the washing machine, I do still recommend however, that garments are hand washed. This gives longevity to our beautifully crafted goods.
All yarn comes in skeins, which needs to be carefully unravelled and wound into 'cakes' on a ball winder or by and into lovely bouncy balls. There are plenty of YouTube videos which demonstrate.
We are a smoke and cat free home. But, I do have a nutty hypoallergenic Cockapoo, not that he assists with the yarn dyeing.
After being dyed, your yarn is washed in lots of lovely warm Cornish water, with a mild, detergent, which is fragrance free for sensitive skin.
Sourcing Our Yarn
I am very meticulous about where I purchase my yarn and ask many due diligence questions to ensure the yarn is responsibly sources.
The Superwash Merino they use comes from South America. My supplier has reassured me through their due diligence that they do not source their wool from animals subjected to mulesing. I also do not tolerate this practice.
Our Superwash yarns are also OEKO-TEX 100 and/or EU Flower approved. This means the processes used are stringent and and the water that is used in the superwash treatment is recycled and super filtered, so no nasties are being dumped into our environment.
I will be checking with my suppliers as I grow my brand as to how the different types of fibres are sources, as ethics are important.
Climate and Environment
I use recycled and recyclable packaging to get your yarny goodness to you.
I will always try to be as plastic free as possible when it comes to packaging.
In my dyeing processes, I use and re-use as many tools and utensils as possible and love a bit of up-cycling!
I do not use more dye than is absolutely necessary, to minimise the risk of any going down the plug and into the drain- not because this is just wasteful, but because its more things that have to be treated by the water system.
If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on how I can improve my practices, I would love to hear from you.
